ALLEGED CROSSING-RELATED INCIDENTS AND IMPROVING THE WORKING OF THE HOTLINE WERE AMONG THE KEY ISSUES DISCUSSED AT THE 10th IPRM MEETING IN GALI

14.12.2009
The tenth meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism took place in Gali on 8 December 2009. Georgian Government, de facto Abkhaz, Russian and EUMM representatives attended under the auspices of the UN.

In a constructive atmosphere, recent incidents involving crossing the boundary line were discussed and clarifications on procedures and practices were exchanged.

Ways to improve the working of the hotline were identified so that this operational instrument facilitates better communication between all the parties.

Participants also raised the issue of the alleged over-flights by UAVs, whilst calling for discontinuing of these practices in order to prevent avoidable confrontation.
Once again, views and details about the recent maritime incidents in the Black Sea were exchanged.

The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Gali on 20 January 2010.
