During their visit to Georgia, the US Congressional Staff Members visited the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia on 4 August 2010.

The delegation was briefed by the Head of EUMM, Ambassador Hansjörg Haber, on the role and everyday work of the Mission, its achievements and challenges as well as the environment in which it operates. The US Congressional Staff Members also had the opportunity to discuss the current security and humanitarian situation on the ground and prospects for the conflict resolution.

Having been provided with an overview of the work of the EUMM, the delegation attended a patrol with the Field Office Gori to the check point at Ergneti at the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with the breakaway region of South Ossetia. They took an opportunity to discuss the security situation in the vicinity of the ABL and to ask the EUMM monitors about their work as part of the Confidence Building Team.

The delegation emphasised their continued support for the Mission’s objectives and expressed appreciation of the Mission's contribution to security and stability in the region.
