On Thursday 22 March, a delegation from the Latvian Foreign Ministry, led by State Secretary, Mr Andris Teikmanis, and accompanied by the Latvian Ambassador to Georgia, Ms Elita Gavele, was welcomed to the EUMM HQ in Tbilisi by Head of Mission Ambassador Tyszkiewicz. The delegation was briefed on the role and work of the Mission, the progress achieved over the last three and half years, and the present and future challenges. The members of the delegation expressed their interest about the security situation on the ground, especially in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines; the situation of freedom of movement for the local population; the conditions for Internally Displaced People; and the progress made under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings. After the visit to EUMM HQ, the delegation travelled to the EUMM Field Office Mtskheta to receive a more specific briefing on the work carried out there, before following a EUMM patrol to see for themselves the situation at the South Ossetian Administrative Boundary Line. The delegation welcomed the opportunity to gain first hand knowledge of the situation on the ground and made clear that Latvia fully supported the work of the Mission.
