On Saturday, 12th of May, staff from the press office of the EU Monitoring Mission to Georgia (EUMM) represented the Mission at the annual exhibition in the centre of Brussels to mark "EU Day". This public event, attended by all EU Missions set up under the Common Security and Defence Policy, marks the founding of the European Coal and Steel Community in 1950, which ultimately became todays "European Union".
Each year, thousands of members of the public visit the event in the atrium of the Council of the European Union building in Brussels, to learn more about the EU and its important work around the world.
EUMM joined other Mission colleagues in displaying videos, items, brochures, and messages to the visitors, illustrating the work of the mission, past progress and future challenges. The EUMM stand was visited by the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, the Executive Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Pierre Vimont and the EU Civilian Operations Commander and Director of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC), Hansjoerg Haber.
