Presenting the Mission in Zugdidi

24.08.2012
The focal point press and public information officer of EUMM Field Office Zugdidi has given a presentation about the Mission’s mandate and activities for a group of students in Zugdidi. The EU Monitoring Mission was invited by an NGO called Atinati.

The presenter emphasized that EUMM was an unarmed, civilian mission, deployed in Georgia after the August 2008 conflict to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement and the implementing measures. Ever since, the Mission has been patrolling day and night, particularly in the areas adjacent to the South Ossetian and Abkhazian Administrative Boundary Lines. The Mission’s efforts have been primarily directed at observing the situation on the ground, reporting on incidents, and, generally, through its presence in the relevant areas, contributing to improving the security situation.

The students were comforted to hear that EUMM is committed to maintaining stability, remaining impartial and actively engaging with conflict parties.
