Within its mandate of stabilisation, normalisation, confidence building and reporting to EU policy makers, the EU Monitoring Mission has always sought to facilitate freedom of movement of the conflict affected population. For years the issue has been especially sensitive in relation to attending schools in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABL) and EUMM has repeatedly raised it at meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism.
This autumn, similarly to previous years, there have been a few reports of limitations for schoolchildren and teachers to cross the ABL at certain areas. EUMM has been closely following freedom of movement and these instances are being addressed with the relevant forums.
EUMM continues to monitor the facilitation of the essential human right to education in one’s mother tongue and freedom of movement.
