Head of EUMM emphasises importance of confidence building and cooperation with civil society

19.04.2013
On 18 April EUMM’s Field Office in Zugdidi hosted the 29th Information Sharing Meeting with 18 NGOs and civil society organisations. Ambassador Andrzej Tyszkiewicz, the Head of EUMM, welcomed the participants and emphasised the importance of confidence building and cooperation with civil society. The event provided a good opportunity to exchange information about current activities and on-going projects.

Field Office Zugdidi provided an overview of the security situation along the Administrative Boundary Line, including the potential opening of new official crossing points and EUMM’s preliminary findings regarding confidence building measures implemented by civil society actors.

Representatives of the EU Delegation in Georgia and UNDP gave a briefing about the Confidence Building Early Response Mechanism (COBERM), a joint EU/UNDP initiative to support immediate and concrete confidence building actions within and across conflict divided communities. The overall objective of COBERM is to foster a peaceful transformation of conflicts.
