On 25 November, within the framework of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, monitors from Field Office Zugdidi (FOZ) held two peer to peer presentations on policing and domestic violence at the Zugdidi Regional Police and Zugdidi Patrol Police offices.
In the same evening, the 16 Days Film Festival kicked off at the Zugdidi Cinema attracting a large number of local residents.
On the following day, the Field Office Zugdidi held another Information Sharing Meeting, which was dedicated to a discussion of gender issues.
In addition, Field Office Zugdidi has visited two schools and held presentations and interactive activities, involving approximately 300 students, teachers, parents and local authorities. Presentations explaining EUMM’s work and its mandate, as well as significance of the White Ribbon campaign, have been also held in the Kutaisi University.
On 3 December, FOZ Monitors attended an event organized by DEA NGO, as part of the International Disabled Persons Day, which involved a large group of people marching and assembling to watch some contemporary dancing by students in wheel chairs.
With a few days to go until the campaign ends on International Human Rights Day, FOZ monitors are still planning to hold one more school presentation, show the final film ‘Take my eyes’ on 10 December and attend a number of local events relating to gender and human rights. The events have strongly contributed to raising awareness and promoting discussion about types of violence, including gender based violence, with participation of regional police officers and school pupils. The discussions highlighted some of the areas, where improvements can be made with regard to domestic violence awareness.
Meanwhile, on December 05, EUMM patrol from the Field Office Mtskheta also held a series of presentations in the framework of the campaign. The event took place in the Mukhrani School which is located in the vicinity of the Administrative Boundary Line. Approximately 100 pupils and 10 teachers coming from five different schools (Mukhrani, Odzisi, Tsikhisdziri, Dzveli Qanda and Qsovrisi) actively participated in the event. The presentations delivered by the monitors focused on the EU’s comprehensive approach on gender equality and its commitment to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and 1820 in all CSDP operations.
From their part, groups of teenagers from each of the schools presented their views around the topic and spoke about the EU and the EU-Georgia relations in general.
