EUMM facilitates “train-the-trainer” session at EULEX Kosovo

26.03.2015
In March EUMM assisted colleagues from European Union Rule of Law Mission, EULEX Kosovo, to host a “train-the-trainer” session. Besides 11 colleagues from EULEX Kosovo, participants also included two colleagues from the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine and one colleague from United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), as well as two representatives of Kosovo authorities.

The training session provided a whole range of training skills and techniques, from the definition of specific training objectives and evaluation benchmarks to presentation techniques and how to deal with resistance or troubleshooting.

“The course was very interactive and advanced, as all participants regularly fulfill training tasks in Mission environments,” said Gordon Klussmann, EUMM’s Capacity Enhancement Officer, who facilitated the training session.

The training session took place within the framework of a pilot project run by Europe’s New Training Initiative for Civilian Crisis Management (ENTRi), which aims to deliver training in “real-life” mission environments.

EUMM is regularly called upon by other Missions to help them provide training. This week, for instance, EUMM is hosting a Critical Incident Stress Management training session for colleagues from all over the world, while the Mission also hosted a security training session for the EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) in 2014.

ENTRi is a unique capacity-building programme. Its main focus is the preparation and training of civilians that are either going to, or already working in, crisis management missions worldwide.

ENTRi is an initiative funded by the European Commission (90%) and co-funded by its 13 implementing partners under the lead of the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) in Berlin. ENTRi was created by the European Union’s Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace and is guided by the European Commissions Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), which is co-located with the European External Action Service.
