On 10 February, the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) delegation met with Police Chiefs from Western Georgia.

The Head of Mission Kestutis Jankauskas thanked the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for solid ongoing functional cooperation and MIAs commitments to the Technical Agreements and presented his views how this ongoing good functional cooperation should continue.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Merab Malania welcomed the EUMM delegation and expressed the Ministry’s appreciation of the functional cooperation with the Mission. The MIA presented their ongoing reforms and future vision.

The Head of Mission presented the structure and mandate of the EUMM with special emphasis to the work the Mission does to assure compliance in accordance with the Technical Agreement between the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the EUMM. This agreement warrants the Mission access to relevant information and Georgian Police facilities.

The Mission staff also explained how onsite compliance monitoring of Police facilities is practiced and how mutual cooperation advances implementation.
