EUMM participates in the fifth EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee meeting

The fifth meeting of the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC) was held in Tbilisi on 19-20 September 2017. Among the items on the agenda was the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Georgia.  

On day two, EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) Acting Head of Mission (AHoM) Erik Hoeeg gave a presentation to the assembly on mission findings, summarising the current situation on the ground and challenges at the Administrative Boundary Line when it comes to freedom of movement and rights of the conflict-affected population. The Acting Head of Mission stressed the importance of the Hotline facility and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings in Gali and Ergneti, as means to reduce tensions and prevent escalation.  

Various European and Georgian Parliamentarians, in the presence of the First Deputy State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Mr. Petre Kankava, expressed strong support for the work of the Mission and its contribution to peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Previously, on the first day, Head of Analytical Reporting and Outreach Department (AROD), Kaupo Känd, took part in the session in the presence of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Ms. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili who also underlined the importance of EUMM, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground.
