Finnish Union of Journalists visited the EU Monitoring Mission Headquarters

25.05.2018

On Friday 25th May, a delegation consisting of 16 members of the Finnish Union of Journalists visited the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) headquarters in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Head of Mission, Mr. Erik Høeg, welcomed the delegation and invited the journalists to get a better understanding of Mission’s presence on the ground by joining EUMM patrols in the future.

Afterwards, the guests received a general briefing about the Mission mandate and implementation, the latest trends, including the negative impact of ‘borderisation’ on the lives of local communities living close to the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABL).

Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Kate Fearon, in a follow up discussion, answered questions about the security situation in the breakaway regions, and future prospects for the Mission. In addition, local farmers’ access to land and detention cases along the ABL with the two breakaway regions was discussed.

The Finnish Journalists showed a high interest in Mission activities and thanked EUMM experts for their professionalism and commitment in implementing the mandate.
