EUMM launches 2019 ‘Special Prize for Peace Journalism’

02.05.2019
On 2 May, the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), together with the EU Delegation in Georgia, launched the 2019 ‘EU Prize for Journalism’. World media celebrates World Press Freedom Day annually on the 3 May.

The ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’ is one of the seven categories established in the framework of the ‘EU Prize for Journalism’, organised by the EU Delegation in Georgia.
The ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’ is awarded for the best conflict-sensitive journalistic work contributing to confidence building and peace in the context of armed conflicts in Georgia. The EUMM seeks to promote professional integrity, fair, ethical, sensitive, balanced and prejudice free reporting in the region. The winner of this category will receive a one-month fellowship with the Institute of War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in London. The EUMM partner in this award is the IWPR, based in Tbilisi.

“It is how the media informs the public that the potential for confidence building lies. We are looking for new ideas – stories told with sensitivity and with professional integrity covering conflict related issues”, noted Ms. Kate Fearon, Acting Head of the EUMM, at the launch of the ‘EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism’.

"Today it is my pleasure to launch the 8th edition of what is by now one of the longest running journalism competitions here in Georgia. The European Prize for Journalism encourages professionalism and ethical conduct by awarding the best work in print, broadcast, online, and photo journalism,"Ambassador Carl Hartzell said.

The deadline for submission of entries is 15 October 2019. The application form, rules and submission guidelines are available at http://www.euprizejournalism.ge/
