24.05.2019
On 23 May, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Mr. Erik Høeg, visited the Levan Mikeladze Diplomatic Training Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. Mr. Høeg delivered a lecture on the “EUMM 10 years of continued presence in Georgia”, which covered mainly the role of EUMM, ways of implementing its Mandate, current challenges and achievements through the years.

During the lecture, Mr. Høeg stressed EUMM’s contribution to managed stability on the ground, including reporting to EU policy-making bodies in Brussels and EU member state capitals. The role of EUMM in confidence building along the administrative Boundary Lines (ABLs) was also emphasized.

Head of Mission underlined the importance of the work undertaken within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings in Ergneti and Gali. The Hotline was noted as one of the most successful mechanisms facilitated by the Mission. Mr. Høeg provided a brief overview of Hotline activations, its nature and the positive impact it makes on conflict-affected population on both sides of the ABL.

The lecture was followed by a Q & A session, where the young diplomats expressed their interest in the Mission’s perspective regarding conflict management in Georgia and other Mandate related topics.
