The 27th IPRM meeting takes place in Ergneti

24.10.2012
On 24 October, the 27th meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, co-facilitated by the EUMM and the OSCE, took place in Ergneti.

Participants noted the stable security situation, and discussed recent detention cases, possible airspace violations and the fate of missing persons. The latest situation in the village of Zardiantkari was raised, as were the detention conditions of prisoners on both sides of the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL). The importance of giving early notification of military movements and military exercises by all sides was once again stressed.

The sides welcomed the timely release of detainees in two cases, one by the Georgian and one by the de facto South Ossetian authorities. Ambassador Tyszkiewicz, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, drew the participants’ attention to the fact that the firewood collecting period had started and asked for leniency towards people crossing the ABL unintentionally. The constructive approach of participants in relation to farm animals crossing the ABL was praised. The EUMM and OSCE asked participants to pay special attention to demining activities near the ABL. The possibility of cross-ABL cooperation in a specific criminal case was also discussed.

All participants expressed appreciation of the usefulness of the telephone hotline in defusing potential tension.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere.

It was agreed that the next meeting will take place on 28 November 2012.
