EUMM Georgia Moves to New Field Office in Zugdidi

06.09.2024
Zugdidi, 6 September – The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) has officially moved into its new Field Office in Zugdidi. This marks a significant milestone in the Mission’s ongoing efforts to maintain its operational capabilities along the Abkhaz Administrative Boundary Line (ABL).

Crucial role

The new Field Office at 25 Tsotne Dadiani Street, replacing the previous location at 8 Tavisupleba Street, is tailored to meet the evolving needs of the EUMM. As the sole EUMM presence monitoring the Abkhaz ABL, the Zugdidi office is crucial in maintaining the Mission’s presence and swiftly addressing developments in the region. Equipped with modern facilities, advanced communication tools, and enhanced security measures, this new office will enable the Mission to conduct its operations with greater efficiency and effectiveness.

More than bricks and mortar

During the opening ceremony, the Head of Mission emphasised the importance of this move, stating, "This move is about more than bricks and mortar. This new building is a symbol of our long-lasting dedication to peace and stability in Georgia. In particular, it reflects our ongoing commitment to support the conflict-affected communities along the Abkhaz Administrative Boundary Line."

A legacy of stability

The previous Field Office, which had been in use since December 2008, has been central to EUMM’s operations for nearly 16 years. Throughout this period, the EUMM has played a vital role in contributing to stability in Georgia through its 24/7 monitoring presence, confidence-building efforts, and impartial reporting. The new Field Office continues this legacy, ensuring that the Mission remains a steadfast contributor to peace and stability in the region.
