OSCE Chairperson-in-Office joins EUMM patrol at Odzisi

15.10.2025
15 October 2025, Odzisi – Today, EUMM Head of Mission Bettina Patricia Boughani hosted a delegation, led by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, on a patrol to the South Ossetian Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) in the area of the Odzisi village.

The patrol was joined by Elina Valtonen, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland; Kirsti Narinen, Roving Ambassador of Finland to the South Caucasus; and Christoph Späti, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.

At the Odzisi crossing point, the delegation was briefed on the humanitarian and security situation along the ABL. EUMM monitors explained about the continued process of ‘borderisation’ and highlighted the closure of the crossing point during the first twenty days of each month. They emphasised how these restrictions severely affect the lives of local residents, limiting their access to family, farmland, healthcare, and essential services. Finally, the monitors underlined that EUMM’s presence in the area provides reassurance to the conflict-affected population and helps prevent tensions.

The visit demonstrated the shared commitment of the EU and OSCE to supporting security and stability in Georgia and across the region.
