EUMM continues fight against Gender Based Violence

18.12.2015
EUMM concluded the ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence’ on 10 December – International Human Rights Day. Over these 16 days, EUMM worked with around 1800 people in areas along the ABL, spreading the word about the campaign and raising awareness about gender based violence.

During this time, EUMM staff wore white ribbons, signifying a commitment to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Security actors, school children and commuters across the ABL were among those our Monitors talked to about the importance of the campaign and combating GBV. Many locals then wanted to wear ribbons themselves!

Our Mission was very active during this time, making successful presentations in schools across Georgia, holding a film festival in Zugdidi (focused on empowering women and girls), screening the Speak Out Documentary by UN Women, holding interactive workshops and participating in roundtable discussions. The Mission even presented the 16 days campaign to an audience of 300 students at the Kutaisi Military Cadet Lyceum, inspiring the students to also enthusiastically don the white ribbons.
