Raitis Tiliks, Latvia
Nothing is impossible’. I have served for the EU in various deployments in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Western Balkans. My many and varied experiences have though me that we can make a difference. I am a Hotline Holder / Liaison Officer at the EUMM, and I truly believe that human values form the very basis in paving a way for peaceful conflict resolution. This too can take place in Georgia.
I have served for 27 years as a border guard officer of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia. These experiences have engendered in me an understanding of human values (not principles) which are needed for confidence building and mutual trust in situations like in post-conflict Georgia.
To me human values are most important. I am honoured to be a part of the EUMM Team in this regard. In a dynamic environment, I act in a fair, objective and impartial way.
I hope, that the number of positive outputs from Hotline communications will steadily increase. I believe that positive outcomes by Hotline parties may support bigger positive dynamics at the strategic level. Lets hope that all the people on both sides of the Administrative Boundary Lines will some day say with realistic hope: ‘Nothing is impossible, because anything is possible’.
