On Thursday 1 October, Mr. Vygaudas Ušackas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania visited the headquarters of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM). He was accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Mečys Laurinkus of Lithuania to Georgia and high officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Georgia.
The delegation was briefed by Hansjörg Haber, the Head of Mission (HoM) and Gilles Janvier, the Deputy Head of Mission (DHoM) as well as the Lithuanian representatives of the EUMM. The briefing started with a general presentation on the EUMM mandate and activities. The presentation included achievements and challenges to the implementation of the mandate, the issues of IDPs, population figures in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and the presence of international organisations in those regions.
On Friday, 2 October, Mr. Vygaudas Ušackas made a field trip to the adjacent areas to South Ossetia, where he attended a patrol to see EUMM’s work on the ground.
