EU-GEORGIA PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION COMMITTEE VISITS EUMM

31.03.2010
The Deputy Head of EUMM, General Gilles Janvier, welcomed a large delegation from the EU Parliament representing the EU-Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee to the Headquarters of the Mission on Wednesday, 31 March. The delegation was briefed by the General on the role and everyday work of the Mission. The briefing also included detailed information on the set up of the Field Offices and the scope of the activities carried out by the EUMM patrols on the ground.

The EU-Georgia Parliamentary delegates welcomed the work of the Mission. They were particularly interested in the future of the EUMM after September, when its current mandate expires. They also expressed deep interest in the implementation of the Georgian Government’s “State Strategy towards the Occupied Territories-Engagement through Cooperation”, as well as the “Law on Occupied Territories of Georgia” and asked a number of questions with regard to these documents. The General provided them with in-depth information on these issues and the implications for the Mission. The delegation wished the staff success in their work in the coming months, before continuing their visit with a trip to the EUMM Gori Field Office.
