On 20 May 2011, a senior delegation of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia paid a visit to the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia.
The delegation was welcomed by the Head of Head of Mission’s office, Björn Kühne, who thanked them for the important contribution made to the Mission by the Latvian Government.
The delegation received a briefing on the challenges and achievements, and the environment in which the Mission operates. They were particularly interested in the security situation in the conflict zones, relations between the authorities of Tbilisi Administered Territory and the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as well as prospects for the conflict resolution. They also had an opportunity to meet and talk to some of the Latvian staff at the EUMM Headquarters.
The delegation reiterated their continued support to the Mission’s efforts to contribute to stability and security in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines.
