Recent incidents, crossing procedures, and freedom of movement discussed at latest IPRM meeting in Gali

The twenty seventh meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), chaired by the United Nations, took place in Gali on 20 May 2011.
 
Participants discussed recent incidents, including the detention of a local resident on suspicion of committing a serious crime and the death of an officer of a  Russian Border Guard patrol team on 8 April 2011.  

Participants also discussed crossing procedures and freedom of movement of the local residents and exchanged views on how to ensure unhindered movement across the Enguri River. The issue of river bank protection works being carried out on a section of one side of the River was also raised.

The meeting took place in a constructive and professional manner. 

The next meeting of the IPRM will take place in Gali on 21 June 2011.
