06.09.2011
On Tuesday 6 September, the new EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Phillipe Lefort, visited the EUMM HQ in Tbilisi. He was welcomed by the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Ambassador Andrzej Tyszkiewicz.

M Lefort took the opportunity to outline his new role, replacing Pierre Morel in respect of the Geneva talks process, and taking on some of the work of the previous EUSR Peter Semneby. Other parts of Mr Semneby’s previous role will be taken over by the EU Delegation office in Tbilisi.

M Lefort received a briefing on the work, role, progress and future challenges of the EUMM. Amongst other issues, he expressed an interest in the overall security situation in the areas adjacent to the South Ossetian and Abkhazian Administrative Boundary Lines, the freedom of movement across the ABLs, and the useful role in confidence building played by the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism meetings.

M Lefort was accompanied by members of his team and the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador Philip Dimitrov.
