Freedom of movement discussed at the 34th IPRM in Gali

On 29 February the EU Monitoring Mission participated in the 34th Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meeting chaired by the United Nations in Gali. The meeting took place in a professional, businesslike atmosphere.

Participants followed up on some detention cases and some recent incidents that took place in the vicinity of the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL). The sides also discussed issues in relation to freedom of movement of the local population. Information was provided that restrictions across the Inguri Bridge are only temporary. The need for joint efforts in the fight against cross ABL crime was also raised again.

The next meeting of the IPRM will take place in Gali on 23 March 2012.
