Local civil society organizations gather at Field Office Gori to celebrate EU Day

13.05.2012
As part of the Europe Day celebrations, on 10 May, Field Office Gori organised a reception, including a presentation, for international and local counterparts on the theme of the history of European Union Integration. The presentation explained to the audience the genesis of the importance of 9 May (known also as Schuman Day), and the historical background, as well as the current achievements and challenges which the European Union is facing. Earlier, at Gori University, a similar presentation was given by EUMM monitors for students eager to broaden their knowledge about this topic.
A reception followed the presentation, and this provided an opportunity to gather together actors operating in Shida Kartli with the aim of promoting efficient mutual synergy.
The spirit of peace and unity which underpins the Schuman declaration dominated the meeting. Thereby, the desire for living in peace was strongly supported by the many invited NGOs whose aim is to promote trust and confidence-building between the two societies either side of the Administrative Boundary Line.
The concept of Europe Day was also celebrated on the following Sunday by a football which Field Office Gori won 3:2 against a local team.
