25.05.2012
On 23 May the EU Monitoring Mission was visited by Klaas van der Tempel, Special Representative for Eastern Partnership and Eastern Neighbouring Countries of the Netherlands and Dutch deputy Ambassador Angele Samura  van der Heijden.
They were welcomed by Gerard A. Fischer, Deputy Head of EUMM and briefed about the general security situation on the ground and the Mission’s contribution to stability and confidence building in the conflict region.

They then visited EUMM Field Office Mtskheta, where they were able to obtain a more detailed evaluation of the situation on the ground  and learn about the day to day activities of the Field Office. While following a patrol to the Administrative Boundary Line, it was explained how the Mission plays an important role in monitoring developments in an operationally impartial way.

The visitors from the Netherlands also visited a settlement for Internally Displaced Persons to see how EUMM follows up specific human security related issues and to appreciate how IDPs can be a valuable source of information for important issues such as freedom of movement.
