On Tuesday 6th November the United States Ambassador- at- large for Global Women’s Issues, Melanne Verveer visited the EUMM Field Office in Gori. She was accompanied by the Ambassador of the United States of America to Georgia Richard Norland and diplomats from the US Embassy in Tbilisi. Ambassador Verveer attended a presentation about the work of the EUMM in Georgia and the different aspects of daily monitoring. There was particular focus on human security and the gender specific vulnerabilities of the conflict affected population. Discussion included the implementation of UNSCR 1325, increasing the participation and representation of women in the main ministries as well as in the formal peace negotiations. Future close cooperation between the US Embassy and EUMM on these topics was agreed.
