UK Minister for Europe visits EUMM

22.11.2012
On 22 November, the Rt Hon David Lidington MP, Minister for Europe in the UK Government, accompanied by the British Ambassador to Georgia , Judith Gough, visited the HQ of the EU Monitoring Mission. The Minister was welcomed by the Head of Mission Ambassador Andrzej Tyszkiewicz and other senior members of the Mission staff.  He was briefed on the role and work of the Mission, and the current situation on the ground, particularly in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines.

Mr Lidington thanked the Mission for its contribution to the security and safety of the local population, especially during recent months, when major events have taken place, including the Caucasus 2012 Russian Federation military exercises and the Georgian Parliamentary elections. He was interested in the current challenges facing EUMM, including the lack of access into South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the postponement of the Gali IPRM meetings, and the development of relations with the new Georgian Government. The Minister also sought, and received, assurances that the Mission was making the best use of its resources and capabilities.
