As part of its Outreach Strategy, the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia visited the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia

On 17 October, the Deputy Head of Field Office Mtskheta of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Ms. Jaana Napa, visited the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Academy of Georgia. Ms. Napa gave a briefing to Cadets on the importance of the Missions presence in Georgia, and the Mission’s contribution to maintaining a stable security situation on the ground.
During the lecture, Ms. Napa provided a short overview of the Mission’s history and its work along the Administrative Boundary Lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Particular attention was paid to the function of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) meetings in both Gali and Ergneti, and the operation of the Mission-facilitated Hotline. Both the Hotline and IPRM meetings are vital tools in facilitating communication between all parties to avoid misunderstandings and reduce tensions on the ground.

The engaging lecture was followed by a short exchange of opinions between the presenter and cadets, who were keen to learn more about Ms. Napa’s experience as a police officer in Estonia.
