“UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls” - EUMM supports the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign

25.11.2022
25 November 2022 - EUMM joins the international community in marking this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign under the global theme “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”. The campaign kicks off on today’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day, calling for global actions to increase awareness, galvanise advocacy efforts and take concrete steps to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence.

Globally, 1 in 3 women have been subjected to intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their life. Gender-based violence continues to be a global human rights violation due to pervasive social and economic inequality, women’s limited participation in politics and the public sphere, and harmful and discriminatory social norms, stigma and gender stereotypes.

EUMMs 16 Days campaign will be kickstarted on Friday 25 November by a simultaneous staff event in our Headquarters in Tbilisi and 3 Field Offices in Mtskheta, Gori and Zugdidi, with opening remarks by Head of Mission Marek Szczygieł. Over the following 16 days, EUMM colleagues will participate in different outreach activities together with civil society organisations, schools and local communities, to raise awareness about gender inequality and gender-based violence.
