On 18 July EUMM’s Field Office Zugdidi hosted its 33rd Information Sharing Meeting, gathering 36 participants from 24 NGOs operating in the Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti region.
The installation of ditches and other obstacles along the Administrative Boundary Line with breakaway Abkhazia was on the top of the agenda. Participants discussed the impact of the opening of four crossing points on local communities’ freedom of movement. They were informed about the rehabilitation project of the Enguri Bridge, which may be completed in October this year.
The Information Sharing Meeting was initiated by UNOMIG in 2002 and takes place every six to eight weeks. After the departure of UNOMIG in the summer of 2009 EUMM Zugdidi took over to chair these meetings, which provide a unique information exchange platform for NGOs.
