On 07 November, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy held a meeting with the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Brussels, who continues meetings with European leaders ahead of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius. Following the meeting, President Van Rompuy highlighted the importance of the Geneva International Discussions and the EU Monitoring Mission.
“I would like to recall the European Union’s unwavering commitment to Georgia’s territorial integrity,” President Van Rompuy said. “Through the Geneva International Discussions and the EU Monitoring Mission, the European Union acts as guarantor of Georgia’s security. We take this responsibility very seriously, and at the same time we expect Georgia to play its own part.”
