EUMM wins award for sustainable waste management

26.06.2015
The European Union Monitoring Mission took part in the Green Building Award 2015 Georgia where the Mission was given the top award in Re-use and Recycling Practices in Georgia. The award comes as a distinction for exemplary practice in waste collection, sorting and separation.

Earlier this year, the Facilities Management Section of our Mission took the initiative to apply for the competition which judges facilities on seventeen different categories and among them recycling practises.

The Facilities Management Section has been involved in the USAID supported Green Building Council Georgia (GBC-GE) project for several years already. The project aims to promote green building standards throughout the world with an ultimate goal to help establish good environmental practice model.

EUMM separates waste in the Headquarters in Tbilisi and in three Field Offices in Mtskheta, Gori and Zugdidi. The waste separation includes plastic, glass, paper, steel, general waste, as well as hazardous waste like batteries, cartridges and light bulbs which are either recycled or sent for safe disposal.

This award is highly appreciated by EUMM and encourages the continued use of this service for all EUMM members Mission wide.
