Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark visits the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia

On February 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, H.E. Mr. Anders Samuelsen, visited the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia. The delegation included H.E. Mr. Ruben Madsen, the Ambassador of Denmark to Georgia, Danish diplomats and officials.

The Foreign Minister of Denmark met with the Head of EUMM Georgia, Mr. Erik Høeg, who expressed appreciation for the substantial contribution of Denmark to the Mission. Mr. Høeg highlighted the fact that the contingent, currently deployed to the EUMM, consisting of 11 experts, is the biggest Danish contingent since the Mission was established in 2008.

The visitors were given a presentation about the Mission’s mandate and present situation on the ground, with special focus on recent developments along the two Administrative Boundary Lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The briefing was followed by a discussion with the Head of the EUMM and colleagues on prospects for conflict management and possible future developments in the region.

H.E. Mr. Anders Samuelsen expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the work performed by the EUMM. H.E. Mr. Samuelsen underlined the key contribution of the EUMM to the stability on the ground and expressed his full support for a favourable decision regarding the extension of Mission’s mandate beyond December 2018.

The Foreign Minister of Denmark met the EUMM during his first official visit to Georgia. His program also included meetings with the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other Georgian authorities.
