Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands visits EU Monitoring Mission - Georgia

On January 22, Mr. Stef Blok, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands,  visited the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.

Acting Head of Mission Ms. Kate Fearon, greeted Mr. Blok and the Dutch delegation in Odzisi, close to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with South Ossetia. Ms. Fearon gave an overview of the Mission’s mandate, operations and observations, highlighting the important role of the Mission-facilitated Hotline in maintaining communications between all the parties to the conflict to manage security on the ground. 

Acting Head of Mission thanked the Dutch authorities for their continuing contribution to and political support for the EUMM. 

During his visit Mr. Blok also met Dutch Monitors deployed to the Mission and expressed his gratitude to them, and the EUMM overall for its essential contribution to regional security and stability. The Dutch Foreign Minister also appreciated the continuing efforts by the Mission to improve the quality of monitoring and reporting, including technological upgrades used by the Mission. Mr. Blok added:

“I am concerned about the situation along the ABL and it’s implications for people on the ground. Therefore I very much support the EUMM in its crucial role as monitoring mission and in building confidence amongst conflicting parties.”
