The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met with the Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG), Mr Grigol Liluashvili, on 25 June in Tbilisi.
A range of topics was discussed, including the security situation along the Administrative Boundary Lines and socio-economic challenges of the conflict-affected populations. The Head of Mission used the opportunity to highlight the importance of the Mission-managed hotline and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism as the tools that contribute to stability and confidence building. He also noted that EUMM has managed to maintain constant monitoring presence along both the Administrative Boundary Lines, while adhering to the COVID-19 precautionary health and safety measures.
Mr Liluashvili emphasized the importance of EUMM’s presence on the ground as the only international monitoring presence and expressed his appreciation for EUMM’s unwavering contributions to stability and cross-ABL confidence building.
