Head of the EU Monitoring Mission meets with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia

The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met with the Minister of Internal Affairs (MIA), Vakhtang Gomelauri, in Tbilisi on 23 July 2020. 

Minister Gomelauri congratulated Ambassador Szczygieł on his new position and thanked him  for the ongoing work of the Mission, also during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its contribution to stability on the ground and confidence-building. The Head of Mission informed the minister of his priorities and the Mission´s efforts towards a quick resumption of the Incident Response and Prevention Mechanism (IPRM) meetings.

The ensuing discussion focused inter alia on the security situation at the Administrative Boundary Lines. Minister Gomelauri used the opportunity to stress the importance of the Mission-managed hotline to ensure information sharing. EUMM HoM elaborated on the important role of the Mission in providing objective information on the situation on the ground.

Both sides commented on the constructive relationship between EUMM and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and expressed confidence that this would be continued in the future.
