Minister of Defense of Hungary visits the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia

The Minister of Defense of Hungary, H.E. Mr. Tibor Benko visited the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) Georgia’s Headquarters in Tbilisi on 25 September 2020. He was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation, which included H.E. Ms Viktoria Horvath, Ambassador of Hungary to Georgia, as well as officials from the Hungarian Ministry of Defense. 

The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, welcomed the delegation and thanked the Hungarian authorities for their support to the EUMM. During a presentation, Ambassador Szczygieł informed the delegation about the Mission’s mandate and its activities in Georgia. He highlighted the role of the EUMM-managed Hotline as an effective tool for defusing tensions at the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABLs) and outlined the Mission’s main achievements with regard to cross-ABL confidence building. 

The Minister of Defense of Hungary, H.E. Mr. Tibor Benko expressed his appreciation for EUMM as a stabilising factor on the ground and reiterated Hungary’s continuous support for the Mission. He met also the members of Hungarian contingent in the EUMM. Hungary is presently one of the main contributors of personnel to the EUMM. A total of 15 women and men of Hungarian nationality currently work for the Mission.
