EUMM Head of Mission meets with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Lasha Darsalia

5 February 2021 – The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Lasha Darsalia on Thursday 4 February.

The Head of Mission and the Deputy Minister discussed the renewal of EUMM’s Mandate from 15 December 2020 to 14 December 2022. The Deputy Minister emphasized the role and importance of EUMM as the only international civilian monitoring mission present in Georgia, and thanked the EU and the Mission’s monitors for their efforts to strengthen stability and security in the country. They also exchanged views on the situation of conflict-affected communities.

The Head of Mission further informed the Deputy Minister that EUMM has continued to be present on the ground despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

They also discussed the upcoming Geneva International Discussions and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM). The Head of Mission confirmed that, jointly with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, they are making concrete efforts to convene the 98th Ergneti IPRM meeting as soon as possible.
