Tbilisi 12 March 2021 - The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł met with the Chairperson of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Beraia.
During the conversation, the Head of Mission informed the Chairperson that EUMM continued to be present on the ground despite the COVID-19 pandemic and that the Mission was gradually increasing its operational activities, in line with the improvements of the epidemiological situation in Georgia.
Ambassador Szczygieł expressed his concern for the protracted closures of controlled crossing points and and the socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on the conflict affected communities living along the Administrative Boundary Lines. Topics such as ‘borderisation’ and hybrid threats were also touched upon during the meeting.
