Tbilisi, 14 September 2021 – The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, hosted today the Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe of the Czech Republic, Aleš Chmelař, on a visit to the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) in the Odzisi area.
At the Odzisi crossing point, the Head of EUMM briefed the Deputy Minister on the most recent security developments along the ABL and their impact on the daily life and human rights of conflict-affected communities.
The Head of Mission further stressed the negative impact that the ongoing ‘borderisation’ activities and prolonged closure of crossing points have on local population’s freedom of movement and on their access to medical care, education, and social services.
Eleven Czech nationals are currently serving in the Mission, including as monitors in the Field Offices.
