Head of the EU Monitoring Mission meets with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia

Tbilisi, 14 June 2022 – Today, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, met with Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, in Tbilisi. 

Head of Mission Szczygieł congratulated Mr. Darchiashvili on his new position and expressed his hope to continue functional cooperation between EUMM and the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

During the meeting, Head of Mission Szczygieł highlighted EUMM’s commitment to maintain a visible 24/7 patrolling presence on the ground to assess the security situation in the areas adjacent to the Administrative Boundary Lines. He also underlined the importance of continuing regular Ergneti IPRM meetings, stressing that this platform is of particular importance for defusing tensions and resolving security issues on the ground. The Head of EUMM further highlighted the role of the Mission in supporting the Geneva International Discussions (GID) and stated that the Mission remains committed to providing objective information to the GID Co-Chairs. 

Minister Darchiashvili highlighted the effective functional cooperation between EUMM and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and other Georgian governmental institutions. He also underlined the role of the Mission in maintaining dialogue and building confidence through co-facilitating the Ergneti IPRM format and managing the EUMM Hotline.
