The Council of the European Union appointed today Major General Bettina Boughani, a commissioned officer of the French National Gendarmerie, as the new Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia.
Major General Boughani has extensive experience in international relations and in stabilisation missions. Throughout the 35 years of her career, she held various senior positions within the United Nations and the French Gendarmerie, as well as in the French Ministry of the Interior. Previously she was involved in conflict prevention, mediation, and peacekeeping in sensitive political and security contexts as MINUSMA’s Police Commissioner (United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali).
The decision to appoint Major General Bettina Boughani was taken by the EU Political and Security Committee.
