Tbilisi, 10 April 2024 – Newly appointed Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM) Bettina Patricia Boughani held an introductory meeting with Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, in Tbilisi.

During the meeting, Head of Mission Boughani highlighted EUMM’s commitment to maintain a visible 24/7 patrolling presence along the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABLs) to foster security and stability in Georgia. She also underlined the importance of the Missions confidence-building mechanisms, such as the EUMM-managed Hotline and the Ergneti Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), in facilitating dialogue and defusing tensions. Finally, she provided the Missions assessment of the security and humanitarian situation along the ABLs.

Foreign Minister Darchiashvili thanked the Mission for its contributions to stability in Georgia and the wider region, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground. He expressed his support for the full implementation of the Mission’s mandate throughout the territory of Georgia.
