63rd IPRM meeting takes place in Ergneti

24.02.2016
On 24th February 2016, the 63rd meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, co-facilitated by Kęstutis Jankauskas, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), and Ambassador Guenther Baechler, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.

The overall situation along the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) was assessed as stable. Participants discussed several security-related incidents which have occurred since the last IPRM in January, such as detentions, explosions, allegations of shots fired and grass fires in the vicinity of the ABL. The extensive and effective use of the Hot Line provided by the EUMM was acknowledged by all.

Participants agreed to move forward on the issue of the rehabilitation of the Tiriponi irrigation canal to the benefit of local farmers.

Constructive exchange of information took place related to several humanitarian issues including individual detention cases and missing persons. Participants welcomed the resumption of the Tripartite Mechanism, facilitated by the ICRC.

The next IPRM meeting will take place on 15th March 2016.
