On Tuesday 2nd August 2016, the 38th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Gali. The meeting was chaired by the United Nations; and Georgian, Abkhaz, Russian and EUMM representatives participated. Discussions took place in a constructive and professional atmosphere.
During the meeting, the Abkhaz IPRM participants provided an update on the investigation into the killing of Mr. Otkhozoria in Khurcha on 19 May 2016. Participants discussed how to proceed with that case. Three other criminal cases, dating from 2007, 2008 and 2011, which took place in Abkhazia, were also discussed.
There was an exchange on issues relating to freedom of movement across the Enguri bridge. All participants were encouraged to share information on planned changes to the crossing regime in advance using the hot line provided by EUMM.
In anticipation of the upcoming academic year, participants agreed to facilitate arrangements for schoolchildren, who cross the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) in order to attend schools.
It was agreed that the next IPRM meeting will take place in Gali on 8th September 2016.
