Kęstutis Jankauskas, Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, takes up a new appointment in Azerbaijan

Kęstutis Jankauskas was appointed Head of Mission, EUMM on the 15 December 2014. He is a career diplomat from the Lithuanian diplomatic service since 1991.

Kęstutis Jankauskas assumes his new role as Head of Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan, on the 1 September 2017. 

During his period as Head of Mission, he co-facilitated the Ergneti Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus. He participated in the resumed Gali IPRM and in the Geneva International Discussions (GID), providing EUMM assessment of the security situation on the ground to the Geneva co-chairs and participants.

Kęstutis Jankauskas met with the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili on the 22 August. The President awarded him with the ‘Order of Honour of Georgia’ in recognition of his personal contribution and efforts in providing peace and safety in Georgia.

During his farewell visits to EUMM Field Offices in Zugdidi, Gori, Mtskheta and at the Mission Headquarters in Tbilisi, outgoing Head of Mission thanked all national and international staff for their contribution, dedication and professionalism. 

“I am proud having worked as “Monitor No.1”, and I’m confident that this Mission will carry on its mandate successfully for greater security and stability in Georgia”. 

Erik Hoeeg will be Acting Head of Mission until a new Head of Mission is selected, and deployed to EUMM Georgia.
