The Head of the EU Monitoring Mission meets with the Georgian Ombudsperson

On 1 March, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM), Mr. Erik Høeg, met with Ms. Nino Lomjaria, the Public Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia. The meeting was held to exchange information and strengthen functional cooperation. 

Mr. Høeg provided an update on the extension of the Mission’s mandate and current activities on the ground. The ensuing discussion touched upon the situation for Internally Displaced Persons, restrictions on freedom of movement for people living in the vicinity of the Administrative Boundary Lines with the two breakaway regions and the detentions that arise as a result.

Ms. Lomjaria presented the current state of human rights in Georgia and priorities for the Ombudsman’s office when it comes to issues related to the conflict. She thanked the Mission for its continuous efforts on the ground.
