Head of EU Monitoring Mission meets Georgian Minister of Justice

Tbilisi, 18 August 2021 – Today, the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia, Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, had an introductory meeting with the Georgian Minister of Justice, Rati Bregadze.

During the meeting, the Head of Mission briefed the Minister about EUMM’s mandate and activities, and its continued, visible presence on the ground. They also discussed issues related to the human rights situation of the conflict affected communities, including access to farming land and property issues along the Administrative Boundary Lines. Both sides discussed the newly presented plan of work of the Ministry of Justice until 2030, including access to public services and prevention of gender-based violence in the pandemic context for conflict-affected communities.

Finally, Minister Bregadze thanked the Head of Mission and stressed EUMM’s important role in maintaining stability as the only international monitoring presence on the ground.
